2004 Grand Prix Report and Final Positions

The 2004 Grand Prix has been won by John Telford and Andy Smith from Bassenthwaite SC. They were early leaders having finished 2nd in the first two Area Championships of the year and in between winning the Inland Championship.  They did not compete at the Nationals due to a clash with Bassenthwaite Week, but nobody came out of the pack to catch them. Well Done John and Andy.
Richard and Phillip Hodgkins also from Bassenthwaite SC have won the Silver Fleet. Again they led from early on and even though quite a few people could catch them with a good position in the last event, The Midland Areas, nobody did, so well done Richard & Phillip and welcome to the Gold Fleet next year.
The Bronze Fleet proved the most competetive and the closest. 5 boats qualified from the Bronze Fleet and with Tony Dukes and Adrian Smith from Chelmarsh SC holding a slender one point lead over Mark and Debbie Tissiman also from Chelmarsh going into the last event, the prize was between the both of them. However the heavy winds took it's toll on both of them with neither able to beat their earlier results, thus Tony And Adrian have won the Bronze Fleet, weel done and welcome to the Silver Fleet next year. To Mark and Debbie, bad luck in being beaten by one point, but you never know it could be your time next year..
36 boats have qualified for the Grand Prix compared with 42 last year, however that was in a World Championship year. Also a couple of points to remember Richard & Phillip won the Bronze Fleet last year, what odds to go on and win the Gold Fleet next year and Tony and Adrian finished last of the qualifiers last year and won the Bronze Fleet prize this year.
