GP14 Championship of Ireland 2004 - Mayo

Fifty competitors from throughout Ireland and Britain converged on Westport for the 2004 GP14 Championship of Ireland hosted this year by Mayo Yacht Club. English sailor Richard Instone and crew James Goodfellow won the first race on Saturday but as the weather deteriorated further races were abandoned for the Saturday. The following day wind averaged over 30 knots so racing was cancelled.

Monday saw lighter winds but with big seas four races were sailed to complete the five race series. Race officer David O’Brien produced some excellent courses in the difficult conditions.

Overall winners were Richard Instone and Jamie Goodfellow Chase SC, 2nd and top Irish boat Hugh Gill and Stuart Boyle Sutton DC, 3rd Tim Corcoran and Brendan Brogan Sligo YC.

The Silver Fleet was won by Newtownards pairing of Nigel Sloan and Mark Valentine, 2nd was Robert and Ross Gingles East Antrim Boat Club and 3rd Johnny Park and Bob Stinson from Newtownards Sailing Club.
