National Championships - SCYC – Race 2

Full Results - Race 2

Race 2 started in a F2 to 3 after Race 5.  The leaders went right up the first beat. First round the mark was current National Champions, Mike Senior and Graham Nelson from Bolton and Blackpool & Fleetwood, followed by Matt Mee and Chris Robinson from Hollingworth Lake SC with Richard Estaugh and Simon Potts from Chase SC in third. The first reach was turned into a run by the tide and the fleet bunched up down the run. The first 3 places remained the same  throughout the race with Ian Dobson and Andy Tunnicliffe from Burwain SC in fourth followed by Dave Young and Liz Pugh from South Staffs SC in fifth.

Silver Fleet medal winners were Peter and William Gardner from Coombs SC with Michael Whittaker and Marty Beenen from South Staffs winning the Bronze Fleet medals.

Moment of the race:
 Johnny Sinclair, ex Youth Champion and Gold Fleet sailor, gybing away from the Windward mark, sailing down the run only to be told by a fellow competitor, " Johnny, did you go around the spacer mark?" Johnny's replay was unprintable, however down came the spinnaker and he beat back up to the mark, alongside the kind competitor who had asked the question.
