National Championships - SCYC – Race 5

Race 5 was the first race of the day as the Nationals more or less got back on schedule with Races 2 & 3 also being held, giving the competitors  8 hours on the water and guess what as I write this we plan to do the same today!

Matt Mee and Chris Robinson from Hollingworth Lake SC  started the day off with a bang and convincingly won the race by a distance. Second was Jonathan Sinclair and Chris Tattersall from South Staffs SC with Dave Young and Liz Pugh again from South Staffs SC in third. Fourth was Graham Flynn and Frank Nickless from Bartley SC with Richard Estaugh and Simon Potts from Chase SC finishing fifth.

Silver medals winners were Paul Leavers and Chris White from South Staffs SC with Bob Baldwin and Spencer Meyer from Warsash SC winning the Bronze medal.

Moment of the race:
Ed Nicklin and Simon Parry from South Staffs SC fixed their Big Yellow Stopwatch to the mast, rounded the Windward Mark hoisted the spinnaker only to find that the stopwatch was around the pole downhaul, in his haste to sort the situation, Simon undid the stopwatch and promptly dropped it over the side an expensive mistake.
