Worlds Race Format Chosen

Report - Paul Simes

At the General Committee Meeting held in Crewe on Saturday 28th January 2006, after over 3 hours of discussion and deliberation, a vote was taken and by a majority the Committee’s preferred format of racing at the 2006 World Championship to be held in Sligo will be the system proposed by the Irish Association.

Thus the 2006 GP14 World Championship will be a 5 race qualifying series with full fleet gate-start racing then a 6 race fleet race series making a total of 11 races. The Notice of Race and Entry Form will be available from the World’s website and the Association’s Office in the near future and to make sure that you’re kept abreast of the situation why not visit the website and join the mailing list. Following the above decision to choose the new format it is now very important to the GP14 Class that, as a group of sailors, we embrace this change and continue to support the class as we have done in the past.

FYI. The Irish Association received confirmation of cheaper ferry deals late on Friday 27th January and the link to those ferry deals will appear on the World’s website and on this website once we have received them.

Cheap accommodation has been arranged by Sligo YC and more details can be found on the Worlds website or by clicking here.

As your outgoing President in 2006, I again would ask you all to come to Sligo in late July early August 2006 and support your World Championship. I sailed there last year and the sailing area is fantastic. It is destined to be an exciting and enjoyable event both on and off the water, as our Irish hosts always manage to stage great events, remember Skerries.

I look forward to seeing you there.
