The 2004 U.K. National Championship.
Most of you will be aware that our National championship is being hosted by South Caernarvonshire Y.C. Abersoch North Wales July 31st to 6th August. To date we have received over 60 entries, we still have many of the top names missing from the entry list plus equally as many regular championship entrants still to secure their entry, if these entries come to fruition we should achieve quite a respectable entry in the eighties or low nineties. The Championship committee will be delighted to receive your entry before the 7th June, however if you are unable to commit to the championship by the 7th June you will still have the opportunity to enter the National Championship up to the close of entries at a slightly increased cost of £165. Last year, out of all the senior classes in the U.K. we managed top spot in the Yachts and Yachting league table. This year life will be a little more difficult but I believe with a little encouragement we could manage an entry level that should keep us in the top three of the senior classes, this will only do the class a power of good, keeping confidence in the class riding high resulting in the demand for new and second hand boats.
This year, as last year, racing at Abersoch will again be run by I.O.D. Aubrey Also and his team, a little of the same would be the request from last years competitors. A reduced entry level this year will mean smaller courses closer in shore; this has got to be a plus for many competitors.
Socials are planned for each evening apart from Thursday with the prize giving on Friday evening being followed by entertainment by the Bumwigs, the brilliant show band which so ably entertained us last year. If you are still pondering as to whether to enter or not, hesitate no longer, save yourself £20 by sending you entry off immediately, go on , JUST DO IT!!! Don’t worry about your accommodation; there must be a park bench to sleep on if the worst comes to the worst.
The championship committee looks forward to seeing you out and about, until then,
Good sailing
IAN SINCLAIR
